Jacob Gerber was blessed to be born into a Christian home. In his early days, he lived in Chappell, NE and attended a Mennonite church in Julesburg, CO with his parents, brother, and grandparents. After second grade, Jacob’s family moved to Hastings, NE, where he attended the Hastings Evangelical Free Church and was baptized upon profession of faith on March 7, 1993.
After graduating from Hastings Senior High School in 2002, Jacob attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During this time, Jacob grew significantly in his faith and first felt a call toward ministry. After graduating from UNL in 2006 with a BA, Jacob attended Beeson Divinity School (Samford University) in Birmingham, AL. While at seminary, Jacob and Allison were married on December 27, 2008.
After receiving his MDiv from Beeson, Jacob and Allison moved back to Lincoln, NE (Allison’s hometown), where Jacob worked for a friend’s startup marketing company and was ordained as a bivocational pastor (i.e., continuing full-time employment in the marketplace while serving as a pastor on a part-time/volunteer basis). In that bivocational role, he served as the assistant pastor of preaching and teaching at Redeemer Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Lincoln, NE on February 20, 2011. During this time, Jacob also served two churches as an interim pastor: Crete Berean Church (Crete, NE) and First Evangelical Covenant Church (Lincoln, NE). While in Lincoln, Evelyn, Zachariah, and Caleb were born.
In 2015, Jacob received a call to serve Harvest Community Church (PCA) in Omaha, NE. During this time, Jacob regularly preached, taught, wrote, shepherded, and led in the church, in addition to serving the broader denomination in a wide range of capacities. While in Omaha, Jacob and Allison were blessed with three more children: Aaron, Kenan, and Judah. Jacob is currently working on a dissertation to complete a PhD in Biblical Studies (Old Testament) from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. In 2025, Jacob accepted a call to serve First Church (PCA) in Lansing, IL as the Lead Pastor.
When he is not working, Jacob enjoys spending time with his wife, playing with his children, going on walks with the dogs, and watching Nebraska Cornhusker football. Most importantly, Jacob is a sinner saved by grace, whose primary passion is to shepherd the flock of God by proclaiming the whole counsel of God’s Word.
